Hanich (2009), describe an out of class assignment which focused on using student interviews to bridge the gap between theories of motivation and practice. Students created their own interview questions (e.g., focus on goal orientation) and interviewed at least two students from a K-12 classroom. Students then  wrote a short paper summarizing what they learned. In class, students then formed groups and created a grading rubric to be used for assessing the assignment.
