How to add content to ToPIX

Main -> How to add content to ToPIX

Ready to add your content?  Navigate to the page where you think your content best fits, then follow these instructions.

Let's say that you come across a good New York Times article related to developmental psychology.  Under "in the news" click on "development." Click the edit tab directly above the page title.

If you're a member of ToPIX and haven't logged in, you'll be asked to log in here.

If you're not a member of ToPIX, you'll be asked if you'd like to become a member.  Since the ToPIX editor has to manually approve you, it may take a little while for approval to be granted. Your patience is appreciated!

Then immediately under the double horizontal bars, add the title of the article.

Next, highlight the title of the article so you can link to it.

In the toolbar, click the hyperlink icon:

That will call up this screen:

Link type: Use the drop down menu to select “URL”

URL: Paste in the URL of the article.

Click OK.

Now save the page.  Click the save button at the bottom of the page or CTRL-S.

This will take you back to view mode.  That's it!

If you run into any problems or you can't get the formatting as you'd like, you're welcome to email the ToPIX editor at topix@teachpsych.org.

Adding images or other files

To add an image or link to another file (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint) to a page, you first need to upload the image or other file to ToPIX.  In edit mode, on the far right of the screen, there's an area titled "Insert links." Click the "Images and files" tab, then click "Upload files."

Put your cursor on the page where you'd like to insert the image or link to the file, then click on your file name.   Note that the files are sorted with the most recent additions first.  Mousing over image files will give you a preview of the file.

If you added an image file, right click on the image and select "image properties" to do some basic image editing, such as putting a border around the image.

To change the size of an image, click on the image, then grab one of the resizing boxes that surround the image and drag.

Embedding video

In edit mode, on the toolbar, select the green puzzle piece icon ("insert plugin).  Mouse over "Video & Photo."  If you have your own video, click "Upload a video."  If you'd like to embed a YouTube video, select "YouTube video."   If the video is from other site, such as TED, and you have the 'embed video' code, select "HTML & Gadgets" to embed the video.
