Boyatzis (1998) article studied the implementation of discussions and a collaborative projects designed to demonstrate how culture plays an important role in child development and elementary and secondary education. In two class periods, Boyatzis had students read journal articles comparing math achievement of American and Asian students, individually write an analysis of the cultural differences using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model, discuss (in groups)  the cultural differences, and lastly form heterogeneous groups to write a collaborative essay.
