NPR's "Researchers use lottery tickets to help slow the spread of HIV" (5/12/15)

 

Researchers in Africa create incentive programs that appeal to risk-taking personality types in order to slow the spread of sexual transmitted infections in Africa. In this study, researchers found that individuals who are inclined to take risks are more inclined to engage in unprotected sex. So, they created a lottery system (lotteries appeal to risk takers) in order to create an incentive to practice safer sex. And it worked.
